Here i keep track of all my most memorable and/or influential games, lest they not be forgotten. I will also post a few words on each game about exactly how they have influenced me. This is supposed to be an ongoing and irregularly updated list.
I have noticed that i kept adding relatively new games to the list because these are the games that are fresh in my mind. They surely impressed me, and i had fun with them but from a more historical point of view I’m not sure how i will view them in maybe a year from now. So I will stick to this rule: I am going to add only games that are at least three years old!

Pele’s Soccer (VCS2600) – i got my VCS2600 for my 10th Birthday. My parents couldn’t know at this time that this eventually turned out to be a career defining present. Neither did i, i just loved playing this game with my brothers and friends until our thumbs hurt.
Decathlon (VCS2600) – the high point of my “blisters on hands” career. The low point of the world’s joystick population.

Bruce Lee (C64) – wether we played coop or against each other – the purpose of the green guy’s character often switched from moment to moment (room to room). I believe it took me about half a year before i saw the “congratulations” screen for the first time. What a joy!

Nebulus (C64) – just darn hard!

Emerald Mines (Amiga) – Great coop and my first Level Design experiences. As a matter of fact, when i applied for the job at Phenomic, i mentioned just that. Volker Wertich replied: “You do know that i created Emerald Mines?”. I did not!

Dungeon Master (Amiga) – the first scary moments and sleepness nights. I think it took me around 18 months, starting over several times, before i actually finished the game for the very first time. What a blast!

Lemmings (Amiga) – really hard to forget. Captivating, addictive gameplay. And the Lemmings music is still in my head today!

Sensible Soccer (Amiga) – Another game i got blisters from. Interestingly, even complete soccer-averse players loved to play the game. Just two years back i played a few more seasons on and off on my dream-Amiga 1200 with all the extras you can think of.

Wolfenstein 3D – great, and banned in Germany, which made it ever so slightly more interesting. The downside is that i got motion sickness (and still do) when i played this for 1-2 hours straight.

DooM (PC) – more scary moments and Level Design experiences. But also the very first multi-computer multiplayer fragfests. At first it was a simple serial cable but that was so much fun, my friends and i decided it’s time to invest several hundred bucks to play the game with 4 players. And so we did – a lot! And when i was alone and bored, i started my demo-recording craze, playing each level from scratch beginning with just the pistol. Here you can find some of my demos for Shadow Warrior.

Duke Nukem 3D (PC) – i wrote the Unofficial Duke3D BUILD FAQ, worked for Apogee in their Compuserve Forum as SysOp and contributed to the Unofficial Duke Nukem 3D Level Design Handbook.

Hexen (PC) (first scripted level design experience)
Quake (PC) (first scripted gameplay changes, eg mod that used our voices, more walkthrough demos, featured in The Deathmatch Manifesto)
Quake 3 (PC) (rock solid multiplayer fun, completed singleplayer on impossible)
World of Warcraft (PC) (yeah, me too)

Gaming Horror -

thousands of hours with doom, playing and editing – i will never forget. i think, the sessions are one of the most remarkabled events in my youth!
